Quick Apply 5 hours ago Full Job Description Summary Responsible for the performance of complex chemical analyses and testing while performing tasks associated with federal, state, and local laws associated with water and wastewater.
Additionally, responsible for assisting in plant operation involving water chemistry, scrubber chemistry and other processes.
Responsible for supervising the day-to-day activities of lab technicians.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintains and ensures safe working conditions, use of proper tools and equipment, and protective clothing and devices.
This includes housekeeping activities, participation in accident investigations, and use of root cause analysis or other methods to maintain a safe work environment.
Oversees and supervises safety training of assigned employees.
Assists in coordination of activities pertaining to the Laboratory and for the maintenance and proper use of equipment.
Initiates requisitions for supplies, equipment and work necessary for the proper operation of the responsible areas.
Follows unit specific guidelines with direction.
Assists with investigations and prepares written reports as required to support changing lab operating conditions.
Oversees internal inspections of the area specific equipment as needed.
May include but not limited to boiler, condenser, cooling tower, media filters and demineralizer vessels.
Maintains calibration of on-line instrumentation for boiler water quality monitoring.
Maintains records of lab instrument calibration for environmental audits.
Over sees operations at plant sewage facility and water treatment facilities.
Tracks chemical inventory and oversees chemical unloading; and sets feed rate adjustments.
Assists in managing laboratory outage work in responsible area.
Assists in troubleshooting of lab processes and equipment.
Oversees environmental sampling.
Oversees Industrial Hygiene testing as performed by laboratory.
Possesses strong knowledge of facility specific processes and systems.
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor s Degree in science or related field License and Certifications:
None Required
Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years related experience.
Equivalent experience in a chemical laboratory performing analysis of coal, air, water and other materials and advanced computer skills is recommended, but not required.
Relevant on-the-job experience or education above and beyond that described above may be substituted for part of the experience and/or education requirement Abilities & Skills Ability to learn and comply with rules, safety practices and plant operating instructions and procedures Ability to learn and have a working knowledge of Safety and Environmental guidelines Ability to read, interpret and work from prints and specifications Ability to learn and properly use tools and equipment required in the work Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, demonstrate professional conduct and effective interactions with employees, contractors and others Physical Requirements While Performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk; sit; work with hands and fingers; push, pull, reach, climb, or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; communicate with others to exchange information; and hear.
The employee must be able to operate machinery, motor vehicles, heavy equipment, and power tools.
The employee must have close visual acuity to analyze data, perform inspections, and view computer monitors; and occasionally life and/or move up to 75 lbs.
Work Environment This position requires working in hazardous conditions such as extreme heat and cold both inside and outside environments; environments containing fumes, odors, dust, gases, and high amounts of noise and vibration.
Additionally, this position requires the ability to work in close quarters, narrow passageways, at heights, on grating, platforms, scaffolding, poles, and catwalks.
Work outside normal business hours may be required.
